Tony Furtado is one of America's most influential and respected roots musicians. He started playing banjo at age 11, was recognized as a child prodigy, and won a pair of National Bluegrass Banjo Championships as a teenager. His 1989 solo debut Swamped added Latin, Cajun, jazz, swing and Celtic influences. 1992's Within Reach featured Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas and Stuart Duncan. Upon encountering Ry Cooder, Tony spent an intensive two-year woodshedding period mastering slide guitar. He re-emerged with high-energy shows and a tireless touring schedule that has earned him a large grass-roots following. “The audience is diverse, from kids who want to rock to older folkies. I think it's people who appreciate good tunes,” says Furtado.
